The story of this kennel does not begin with a general passion for dogs. It begins with a precise search — and the absence of what I was looking for.
I started studying the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test because I needed it myself.
I have an autistic son. I knew precisely which behavioural traits I was looking for in a dog — reactivity threshold, response to physical contact, stability in the face of unpredictable stimuli. When I started looking for a breeder who tested puppies and matched them based on the results, I realised fairly quickly that one did not exist — at least not in Italy, at least not for the Labrador.
I decided to do it myself.

Seguono l'environmental enrichment — superfici diverse, oggetti nuovi, variazioni di contesto — e la desensibilizzazione acustica. Prima che il cucciolo esca dall'allevamento ha già incontrato rumori, texture e situazioni che altrimenti avrebbe affrontato per la prima volta in una casa sconosciuta, in un momento già di per sé destabilizzante.
La socialisation avviene anche con gli adulti del branco — i nostri cani, con i loro caratteri diversi, sono parte attiva del percorso.
A 49 giorni esatti entra il Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test. Dieci prove standardizzate, un valutatore esterno che il cucciolo non ha mai incontrato, nessuna variabile legata all'allevatore. Il risultato è un profilo attitudinale individuale. Da quel profilo lavoriamo per capire a quale contesto familiare appartiene quel cucciolo. Non è infallibile. È lo strumento più serio che esiste per fare questa valutazione a quell'età, dopo un percorso che lo ha preparato a esprimere il suo carattere reale.
One of our dogs today works with the military, abroad. The Volhard profile at 49 days had indicated it precisely. This is not a phrase we write to impress — it is simply what he became, because that is what he was.
Other dogs of ours live in families with special needs — children with disabilities, contexts requiring a dog with very specific characteristics. We do not carry out institutional pet therapy. We make precise placements. When the placement is right, the dog's work follows naturally.
The history of the breed interests me as much as the dog in front of me. The Labrador I breed carries in its genetic heritage five centuries of functional — not aesthetic — selection. Understanding where that morphology, that character, that affinity for water and retrieving comes from is not academic curiosity. It is how you breed with purpose rather than reproduce out of habit.
We produce few litters. We select families before accepting a reservation. We test every puppy. We remain available for the life of the dog.
